Despite a few highlights (Deonte Thompson’s kickoff returns, a touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery), Bears fans would have been better off skipping Sunday’s 38-17 loss to Minnesota.

But it’s the Bears, so there’s no way we’re going to stop talking about them. Even if they now will miss the playoffs for the eighth time in nine seasons.

If you want to praise someone, praise …

>> Bears coach John Fox, for breaking out of his conservative shell momentarily. He called for an onside kick to open the second half, which the Bears recovered. Though any momentum it could have generated evaporated immediately when Jay Cutler fumbled.

>> Willie Young. For a guy supposedly playing out of position as a linebacker, he’s got at least one sack in five straight games.

If you want to blame someone, blame …

>> Jay Cutler, who had a fumble and an interception. Despite his two TD passes, it was a far cry from last week’s solid performance.

>> The offensive line, which was called for a holding penalty on the first play from scrimmage, wiping out a terrific gain by Matt Forte, and allowed five sacks.

>> Anyone who missed a tackle Sunday or got bulldozed into the end zone. Pick someone. Anyone.

Instead, you could have watched …

>> The Baltimore game, if only for those senses-assaulting uniforms featuring gold pants and purple jerseys. What the … ?!
