Sugar Grove police Chief Pat Rollins said that Jorge Espinosa, of the 800 block of Wingpointe Drive in Aurora, did not have a valid license when he struck and critically injured a 20-year-old Aurora man around 9:27 a.m. on the Galena Boulevard Overpass to Route 56.
According to Rollins, the 20-year-old had gotten out of his westbound-facing Toyota Yaris and began pushing the disabled vehicle out of the roadway on the overpass.
At the same time, Espinosa was driving westbound on Galena Boulevard in a Chevrolet Malibu when he allegedly failed to reduce his speed and struck the 20-year-old and his vehicle, Rollins said.
The man was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in critical condition, police said.
Police said there were no signs of drugs or alcohol use at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
Espinosa was charged with having no valid license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
