A pipe bomb filled with gunpowder and plastic was found along the shore of the Fox River on Route 25 in Oswego Township Thursday.
The device was found by Oswegoland Park District workers cutting brush along Route 25. Kendall County deputies were called to the scene at 11:14 a.m. They closed off the area to the public and called the Kane County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Unit. The unit used a robot to destroy the device, which was a plastic pipe filled with gunpowder, paper and plastic.
Kendall County Sheriff’s officials said it is unknown how the device ended up along the Fox River or how long it had been there. They said there are no leads about the person who made the device.
