A fire traced to an upstairs bathroom early Friday morning left a downtown Naperville home uninhabitable, but no one was hurt, authorities reported.

A 9-1-1 caller notified emergency dispatchers of the fire in a home in the 100 block of North Sleight Street at 2:57 a.m., according to a news release from the Naperville Fire Department. Twelve pieces of equipment were sent to the site, the statement said, the first of them arriving five minutes after the call came in.

At first the firefighters could see no evidence of the home burning, but they then located fire in the bathroom ceiling. A hose extended into the home put out the flames within 10 minutes, the department reported.

“Damage to the structure was moderate, and an inspector from Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) deemed the dwelling uninhabitable,” community services bureau chief George Hyland said in the statement.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians came out of the fire, which remained under investigation.
