The teen accused of bringing an unloaded pistol into Stevenson High School remains in custody, and prosecutors have said they do not expect him to return to the school as a student.
Buffalo Grove resident Lamont Glenn, 17, was arrested Dec. 4 at the school, and has been charged as an adult with felony unlawful use of a weapon and felony unlawful possession of a firearm. He appeared Thursday in a Waukegan courtoom, and Judge Christen Bishop ordered that his bail remain at $50,000. Glenn continues to be held at a juvenile facility in Vernon Hills.
In court, Bishop and Glenn’s attorney discussed the teen’s future at Stevenson. Officials said he faces a 10-day suspension, followed by a 45-day review period, after which educators will determine what type of school program they will involve him in.
Stevenson officials say they rarely publicly discuss student discipline. School spokesman Jim Conrey did confirm, though, that Glenn’s future education will not take place at 1 Stevenson Drive.
“Where he will be has to be determined, but it will not be at SHS,” Conrey wrote in an email.
In court, Bishop told Glenn’s attorney that he wanted to see documentation of the school suspension from Stevenson before he would consider releasing Glenn.
According to Lincolnshire police, Glenn brought an unloaded .38-caliber chrome revolver to school in his backpack that morning.
“We have provided the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) with the info on the gun and are still waiting to see if they can locate any type of ‘history’ on it,” Deputy Chief Bill Price wrote in an email. “Depending on the age of the gun and where it was first purchased, there may not be any info available on it.”
Glenn is due back in court Dec. 31.
