An Aurora police officer was recently honored for his efforts in seizing almost two pounds of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia during a November traffic stop.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said Officer Kurt Thomas was on duty around 10:30 a.m. Nov. 3 when he came across a vehicle traveling 15 miles over the posted speed limit near Keating Drive and Hatfield Lane.

Thomas conducted a stop and identified the driver as Matthew Bochenski, 20, of Naperville.

While speaking with Bochenski, Thomas said he smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, Ferrelli said. A police dog was brought in and indicated the presence of drugs, he said.

Ferrelli said officers searched the vehicle and found 852 grams of marijuana in the trunk. Officers also said they located 138 grams of hash oil in Bochenski’s possession.

Ferrelli said other items of drug paraphernalia were also seized.

Bochenski was charged with felony possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver and his vehicle was seized.

Interim Police Chief Paul Nelson recent gave Thomas a commendation as a result of the stop.
