Seeking to attract more and better convention bookings, the Miami Beach Convention Center will undergo a multimillion-dollar renovation with groundbreaking beginning this weekend, the South Florida Business Journal is reporting.

Completion is expected in 2018. When finished, the center will have 505,000 square feet of exhibit space, a new 60,000 square-foot grand ballroom, three junior ballrooms and more, the report said.

An adjacent 800-room headquarters hotel will open a few months after the renovations are complete.
