A Kane County judge on Wednesday denied an Aurora man’s request to suppress his statements to police in connection to an August 2014 shooting, court records show.

Jermaine L. Baker, 37, is accused of attempted murder, home invasion and other charges stemming from an early-morning incident at a home on Shamrock Court in Aurora in which a 45-year-old man was shot multiple times — including in the face — as he lay in bed, according to authorities. The man survived the shooting.

Baker, who remains held in Kane County Jail on $750,000 bail, has pleaded not guilty.

Police described the shooting as the result of a personal dispute between Baker and the man.

In July, Baker’s attorney filed a motion seeking to bar prosecutors from using statements Baker made during an interview with Aurora police Sept. 9, 2014, about two weeks after the shooting. Baker claimed police didn’t read him his rights, didn’t notify him that his attorney was waiting to speak with him, and didn’t make him aware that his attorney had invoked his right to not speak with investigators, according to the motion.

However, Kane County Judge James Hallock disagreed with the motion and denied the request to suppress Baker’s statements.

Baker is scheduled to return to court in January.
