Three Aurora men held in Kane County Jail in St. Charles have been charged after a fight inside the facility.

Davon Saulsberry, 18; Maurice Hayes, 19; and Jeremiah J. Muhamad, 28, each face counts of battery and mob action in connection with an attack on another detainee on Dec. 5, court records show. Saulsberry and the inmate were involved in the initial altercation, when Hayes and Muhamad jumped in, according to court documents and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. What started the fight is not known, police said.

Saulsberry and Hayes have been in the jail since October on stolen vehicle and aggravated battery charges, respectively. Jail records show Muhamad has been in custody since September, but what charges he faced were not clear in court filings.

Hayes was also charged with resisting a peace officer after he continued to try to kick at the other inmate while in the process of being handcuffed, the charges state.

In August, four men were charged after a fight erupted among inmates in the jail’s H Pod and a makeshift weapon was discovered – all of which resulted in the facility being placed on lockdown for two days. That fight was blamed on tensions between street gangs.
