Aurora police are working with neighboring agencies to help solve the armed robbery of an Aurora 7-Eleven convenience store that occurred on Friday, two days before the robbery of an Oswego 7-Eleven.

In both instances, a masked man, armed with a handgun, demanded money from a store clerk, got the money and ran away, police said.

The details of the most recent robberies are strikingly similar to a string of robberies reported throughout September, October and November in Aurora, police said. The robberies of five gas stations/convenience stores were reported throughout the city during that time, Aurora police said.

“We do believe that, based on the motive of several similar incidents, some are related,” Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

Ferrelli said that Aurora’s most recent robbery occurred around 2 a.m. Friday at the 7-Eleven store in the 2200 block of South Eola Road.

An armed masked man, dressed in all black clothing, entered the store and demanded money from a 41-year-old male clerk.

The clerk handed over cash and his cell phone, worth approximately $850, and the robber ran away.

Ferrelli said the suspect was described as a black man, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 150 pounds.

In the Oswego incident reported on Sunday, police said the man entered the 7-Eleven, 2 E. Merchants Drive, around 3:15 a.m., approached a store clerk and showed him a black handgun.

The robber demanded money from the clerk, and was handed an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. He then ran out of the store southbound toward Fernwood Road.

Police said the robber was described as a masked black man, between 20 and 25 years old. He was about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with an average build. He was wearing a black coat, blue pants and gloves.

Anyone with information about these, or recent similar robberies is asked to call their local police department.
