As the holiday season gets underway, Elmwood Park is going to get a bit more light.
Village officials are encouraging residents to come out to the Conti Parkway, which is often referred to as “the circle,” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 for the village’s Holiday Stroll in the Circle. Elmwood Park Village President Angelo “Skip” Saviano will officially light the village’s Christmas tree at the event.
Jim Parenti, one of the organizers of the event, said the event was moved from Central Park to Conti Parkway in hopes of drawing a larger crowd. He said last year, there wasn’t a large turnout, so they decided to move it to the parkway. If the weather’s bad on the day of the event, people can go inside the Parks and Recreation Building to continue with the festivities.
The Guerin Prep High School Chorus will be singing Christmas carols, while local boy scouts will be selling Christmas wreaths and giving out free hot chocolate. The Chicago Cupcake Food Truck will be at the event selling their cupcakes.
“Santa will come by to take pictures with the kids and he will be giving out candy canes,” Parenti said.
Parenti said the annual event has been going on for 10 years, and invites residents and the community to participate in it.
“Hopefully we’ll end up with a nice day,” he said.
