A chain of break-in burglaries, most of which authorities said were likely connected to each other, appears to have subsided. The investigations have not resulted in any arrests, though, according to police.

Three break-ins with similar methods and nearby addresses on three consecutive days grabbed the attention of the Buffalo Grove Police Department, according to deputy chief Roy Bethge.

“That’s a statistical anomaly — unless you’re one of those homeowners,” Bethge said. “Then, it’s very significant.”

The three that alarmed officers the most:

* Nov. 4, at a house in the 2800 block of Daulton Drive, which the burglars ransacked.

* Nov. 5, a house in the 2100 block of Apple Hill Lane, where the intruders stole watches and jewelry while throwing furniture around.

* Nov. 6, in the 2200 block of Miramar Lane, where the thieves stole cash and jewelry.

All three addresses are close to Illinois Route 22, between Buffalo Grove Road and Stevenson High School. Each involved doors being pried open, according to the police reports.

“I think it’s likely that they’re related,” Bethge said. “These are the same character traits, as to how they’re getting in.”

In recent weeks, four other burglaries have taken place elsewhere in Buffalo Grove, though few or none may be related, Bethge said:

Sometime between Oct. 19-29, someone entered a house in the 100 block of Selwyn Lane, but stole appliances, the report indicates.

On Oct. 20, an attempted burglary that may have been the fault of the same crew took place on the 300 block of Ronnie Drive. There, the offenders tried to pry open a sliding-glass door, and damaged it in the process, but did not get inside. That area is just steps west of Buffalo Grove Road, and only a bit south of Aptakisic Road —near the three consecutive break-ins that would take place two weeks later.

On Nov. 14, intruders ransacked a house in the 300 block of Horatio Boulevard — well south and east of the other break-ins —and stole jewelry.

And on Nov. 17, a teen told officers that someone had stolen his shoes and electronics from his residence, in the 400 block of Dogwood Terrace —but he also informed officers that about 20 of his friends knew that the lock on one of his doors was broken. That is the last reported burglary in Buffalo Grove to date, according to reports.

Police met with residents of the neighborhoods between Stevenson and Buffalo Grove Road on Nov. 19 to listen to their concerns and share prevention tips.

“That’s a very interesting conversation,” said Bethge, who also noted his department has had them in the past. “We’ve been doing these meetings forever.”
