A Gary woman was shot and killed Saturday night, the second homicide in as many days for the city.
Gary Police officers were dispatched to the 900 block of E. 19th Avenue around 11:55 p.m. and discovered Mynisha Brown, 25, of the 2200 block of Harrison Street, had been shot, Gary Police Department public information officer Lt. Dawn Westerfield said Sunday. A second woman had also been shot at that location but received a non-threatening injury.
Westerfield said Brown was taken by an unidentified driver to Methodist Hospital’s Gary campus. She was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m. Sunday, according to the Lake County Coroner’s office.
Brown is the second shooting victim to die in Gary this weekend. Tiyrek Foxx, 16, was shot and killed at a home in the 3900 block of W. 21st Avenue Friday night. The boy’s mother, Miyesha Beasley, said Saturday Tiyrek was at his aunt’s house, and “someone might have been playing with a gun.” Westerfield said the shooting is still under investigation.
