Chicago Heights police say two young girls struck by an SUV while walking on a sidewalk early Wednesday afternoon escaped serious injury.
The two were walking on Euclid Avenue, near 15th Street, around 12:40 p.m., when they were hit by a northbound SUV driven by a 30-year-old Chicago Heights man, police said.
Both had injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
Investigators responding to the scene found the girls lying on the sidewalk and the rolled-over SUV more than a block to the north, where it had struck two parked vehicles on the 100 block of 15th Street, police said.
Witnesses reportedly told police the SUV continued northbound on the sidewalk after striking the youngsters.
The two girls were treated at Franciscan St. James Health’s Chicago Heights facility, police said.
The Chicago Heights Police Department’s accident investigation unit, along with members of the South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team, is investigating the collision.
No charges against the driver had been filed Wednesday evening, police said.
