Chanting “16 times, 16 shots,” a few hundred people marched through the Loop on Tuesday night after city officials released a dash-cam video showing a white police officer emptying his gun on an African-American teen, killing him.

At least three people were taken into custody after scuffling with police, and one officer was seen being taken to an ambulance. No details were available on the injury or the arrests.

The video was released hours after Officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald, 17, in October 2014. The video shows McDonald walking down Pulaski Road near 41st Street, allegedly carrying a knife, when Van Dyke opened fire.

The protesters began marching at Halsted Street and Roosevelt Road around 6 p.m. and closed down intersections as they made their way into the Loop. They were stopped by police when they tried crossing the Columbus Avenue Bridge over the Chicago River.

Some of the protesters said they wanted to walk down the Magnificent Mile, but they were halted by police SUVs and officers on bikes.

After the scuffle with police, the demonstrators headed toward the Central District police station in the South Loop, yelling, “Give us back our friends.”
