As usual, when it comes time for the annual Oak Brook chapter’s fundraiser for the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago, you get two fabulously festive events to choose from, not just one.
The Oak Brook Chapter will sponsor “Cocktails in Candyland” Nov. 30 and “Mistletoe Medley” Dec. 1, both at Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace.
“We choose a two-day event because the ‘Mistletoe Medley’ fashion show and luncheon is designed to appeal primarily to ladies,” said publicity chair Nelly Naguib. “While ‘Cocktails in Candyland’ is for men and women both.”
Apparently, the Oak Brook chapter knows what works, because it usually raises between $125,000 and $150,000 each year, making it one of the major earners among the many chapters in Chicagoland supporting Infant Welfare. This year, Naguib said, they hope to do at least that well.
Currently, all the funds raised by Chicagoland chapters of the Infant Welfare Society go toward the support of the city’s Angel Harvey Community Health Center.
This year’s 5 to 9 p.m. “Cocktails in Candyland” event will feature signature sippables and hors d’oeuvres aplenty along with entertainment and boutique shopping with an array of 40-plus vendors (each donating 20 percent) — just in time for holiday shopping. “Mistletoe Medley” opens at 9:30 the next morning for shopping followed by a luncheon and Zzazz Productions fashion show featuring creations from city and suburban designers, hosted for nearly the 10th year by NBC5 news anchor Allison Rosati.
The Oak Brook Chapter has also outdone itself this year in terms of spectacular raffle prizes, selling tickets both days for major drawings. Continuing their generous tradition, Nives and Joe Rizza have donated $5,000 Grand Prize for a solo cash drawing and additional prizes for premium raffles include four first-level box-seat Blackhawks tickets (for a regular season game to be determined), fine jewelry, sports and theater tickets, spa treatments, a Scotch whiskey collection and much more.
“It’s a great event and the fashion show is wonderful,” Naguib said. “But even if people can’t come, any little donation they can send our way though our website is always appreciated.
We want children to be healthy and happy and productive at school. We know if they don’t have access to health care, they can’t do well at school. We want to make sure these children get a good start so they can become productive and successful citizens.”
