A 17-year-old boy has been charged with arson in a Lakeview fire that displaced six people last week, police said Thursday.
The boy, who police did not name because he is a juvenile, has been charged with committing aggravated arson while knowing that people were in an occupied dwelling in the fire Nov. 10 in the 1900 block of West Diversey Parkway. He was expected to appear in court on Friday, according to police.
Investigators had said soon after the fire at the three-flat that it was believed to be arson, and that they were looking at whether the fire might be connected to a string of similar fires in the area.
The blaze began when a trash bin was set on fire about 6:45 p.m. The fire spread quickly, killing at least one dog but injuring none of the residents, according to the fire department.
