Two purported members of a street gang are accused of selling cocaine out of a house in Gary, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Both Sean “Demon” Yancey and Jose “Sly” Sanchez have been ordered held without bail pending detention hearings set for Monday.
According to the affidavit, unsealed Wednesday, a confidential informant approached an agent with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm and Explosives in October with knowledge of Yancey selling cocaine in Gary.
ATF agents worked with the informant to set up two drug buys at Yancey’s house, in the 5900 block of West 29th Avenue. During the first one, on Oct. 22, the informant bought 1 ounce of cocaine from Yancey for $1,200, the court document states, and bought 2 ounces for $2,800 on Oct. 28. The informant told ATF agents that during the second buy, Sanchez counted the money while Yancey retrieved the drugs, the probable cause affidavit said.
Other Latin Kings gang members were at the house as well, the informant said, although they are not charged in this case.
Sanchez was arrested on Nov. 13, and Yancey was arrested Wednesday. Visvaldis Kupsis, who is representing Sanchez, could not be reached for comment. It was unclear as of Thursday afternoon who is representing Yancey.
