A February trial date has been scheduled for a 45-year-old Aurora man accused of having cash and cocaine in his garage in 2014, according to court records.

Jesus Montes remains held in Kane County Jail on $5 million bail charged with multiple drug and financial crimes stemming from a March 2014 search at his Cambridge Avenue home which turned up 37 pounds of cocaine and $260,000 in cash.

Police were investigating a Montes relative for money laundering when they received a tip indicating Montes was a large-scale cocaine dealer in Aurora. At least nine different search warrants are on file that reference Montes and drug sales, according to court records.

Montes previously tried to have prosecutors barred from using his statements to investigators at trial. Montes’ attorney contended in a court filing earlier this year that Montes told a Kane County sheriff’s deputy he wanted an attorney which ended an initial interview. However, Montes later spoke to federal agents about the drugs and cash, and provided a written statement, court records show.

Kane County Judge John Barsanti set Montes’ trial for Feb. 29. He is expected to return to court next month for a status hearing in the case.
