Lyons Township High School District 204 plans to seek a 2.26 percent increase in the 2015 tax levy, reflected on tax bills payable in 2016.

The total tax levy for the operating funds is projected to rise from $61.3 million in 2014 to 62.7 million in 2015.

The 2.26 percent increase is based on the Consumer Price Index of 0.8 percent, set in December 2014, plus the remainder, or 1.46 percent, for growth in new property added to the tax rolls, according to the tax cap law.

The School Board gave tentative approval to the proposed levy Monday, which will be considered for adoption at the next meeting, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at the LT North Campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave., La Grange.

The proposed levy’s effect on tax bills payable in 2016 won’t be known until Cook County authorities calculate the district’s total equalized assessed valuation in June or July, said Brian Stachacz, director of business services.

Stachacz said the value of new property coming on the tax rolls is estimated at $40 million, bringing in an additional $897,026. The increase in new property could be closer to $20 million, bringing in $448,520, he said.

The amount of new property added to the tax rolls was $8.9 million in 2012, $14.5 million in 2013 and $17.5 million in 2014.
