An Evanston man died after he was struck by a semi-truck Friday evening while biking on Howard Street in Skokie, according to the village’s police department.
James C. Hinton, 43, who was traveling eastbound on Howard Street near McCormick Boulevard, was hit by a truck driving in the same direction at about 5 p.m., said Skokie police Officer Eric Swaback.

Swaback said the cause of the crash is unknown and an investigation into the incident by Skokie detectives and the North Regional Task Force Major Crash Assistance Team is ongoing. He said the truck driver was at the scene of the accident when police arrived. Whether drugs, alcohol or speed played any part in the crash has not yet been determined, Swaback said, and no citations or charges have yet been issued against the driver.
