The Event: Rush Oak Park Hospital teamed up with Marion Street Market to bring together 84 supporters and top medical staff to raise a glass and critical funds for ROPH’s cancer center on Oct. 15.

The Market offered pink cocktails and crimson dishes as part of its support for breast cancer awareness. Ten percent of its proceeds from these initiatives went to help provide free breast cancer screenings for women at Rush Hospital.

Cause Célebre: “We do quite a bit during Breast Cancer Awareness month with various grants to provide free mammograms to people in the local area who are either insured, uninsured or underinsured,” said Angela Spino of Chicago, ROPH director of marketing and communications.

Rush Oak Park Hospital serves primarily the communities of Forest Park, River Forest and Oak Park. Their new breast imaging center has recently been upgraded with $1.5 million dollars worth of the latest diagnostic technology. “Catching (breast cancer) in the early stages can only result in a more positive outcome,” said Spino.

Amanda Piskor of Elmwood Park, the Market general manager, does not know a single person who hasn’t been affected by breast cancer in some way. “I know that there are a lot of strides that have been made but there are so many more so, whatever we can do to support a cause like this, we are absolutely willing to do.”

“We are local resource for the community that combines both the high academic medical center physicians with the high touch community hospital feel,” said Bruce Elegant of Chicago, President/CEO ROPH.
