Sandra Atwood won’t be turning the Christmas lights on at her Aurora home until after Thanksgiving, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t going to hang them.
Atwood and dozens of other residents are taking advantage of the nice weather and getting lights hung before icicles become obstacles.

According to the city of Aurora, that’s totally OK.
City ordinance requires that residents do not display outdoor holiday decorations more than 60 days prior or 60 days after a holiday.
This means, residents are welcome to get festive right now if they’re feeling like it.
“Normally we put them up the first weekend after Thanksgiving,” Atwood said. “It’s usually cold and snowy and it’s not safe.”
Atwood said she’d much rather be climbing a ladder in these near-record breaking temperatures than roll the dice and wait until the end of November.
“I would usually never put them up this early, but it’s safer and a lot easier right now,” she said.
According to city ordinance, residents have until Feb. 25 to get their decorations taken down and stored for next season. That, or face a $50 fine.
