
Fenwick’s girls volleyball team heated up at the end of the season and won four consecutive matches entering its final tournament at Lyons.
The Friars have established another win streak, winning three in a row in the postseason and will make their first sectional final appearance since winning its only sectional, in 2003 in Class AA.
Junior setter Mary Marzo (22 assists) connected with five different hitters for at last three kills each as fifth-seeded Fenwick upset top-seeded Glenbard South 25-19, 28-26 Tuesday, Nov. 3, in the Class 3A Glenbard South Sectional semifinal in Glen Ellyn. The Friars (22-11) will meet second-seeded Rosary (25-13) in the sectional final at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Senior right-side hitter Kathleen Carpenter and senior Annie Ryan had six kills each for Fenwick, while Annie Trucco added five.
“This is exciting for our program to be in the sectional final,” Friars coach Kathleen O’Laughlin said.
