Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. was carried off the field putting no weight on his right leg after an injury suffered late in the third quarter.

After the game, coach John Harbaugh said that Smith suffered a torn Achilles tendon and is out for the season.

“What hurts the most is that I can’t be out there with my guys,” Smith said in a statement released by the Ravens after the game. “We had a great team win today, and that’s really all that counts.”

Smith left the locker room on crutches, with his right foot in a stabilizing boot after the game.

“What he means to this team, this organziation, myself, just what he’s done and what type of competitor he is, I’m not afraid to say it,” quarterback Joe Flacco said. “It’s probably a little bit tougher when you lose a guy like that.”

Smith, the team’s leading receiver who announced in training camp that the 2015 season would be his last, was injured near the end of a 17-yard, third-down completion. He had five catches for 82 yards at the time of his injury.

He was helped off the field with a towel covering his head, shielding it from the crowd and cameras. Some fans stood and applauded as he walked off the field.

“When he first came here a year and a half ago, he and I had a conversation at my house. we talked about … that you’re going to write the final chapters of your career in a way that nobody expects,” Harbaugh said. “Nobody is going to write these final chapters for you. So I’m looking forward to seeing how this story ends.”

On the ensuing play, center Jeremy Zuttah left the game with a left shoulder injury. Reserve John Urschel took over on the drive. Zuttah did not return.
