Aurora police said video surveillance captured footage of a homeless Aurora man setting a fire outside an Aurora grocery store Saturday and then walking away.
Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said the fire caused about $2,900 in damages to electronic equipment, fencing and other items after he set fire to a large bale of cardboard that was outside the business in the 200 block of North Lake Street.
According to Ferrelli, officers were called around 1:25 a.m. to investigate the fire that had broken out in the rear of the grocery store.
Surveillance video allegedly captured a man setting the fire and walking away.
Ferrelli said a homeless man was found sleeping behind a building about a block away from the scene minutes after the fire was extinguished. Clifford Sowell, 57, was charged with criminal damage to property and was not injured, according to police.
