An East Chicago woman faces federal sex trafficking charges, according to an indictment filed Friday in the U.S. District Court in Hammond.
Melinda Milton, 35, is charged with one count each of sex trafficking by fraud or coercion and transporting a person across state lines for prostitution.
The indictment claims Milton committed both crimes on March 1 and June 24. It identifies the victim only as Jane Doe and does not say how old she was. It does say that Milton transported the woman from Illinois to Indiana.
Milton made her initial appearance Friday, according to court records, and was ordered held without bond pending a detention and arraignment hearing set for Wednesday. No information was available as to who is representing her.
