So, here’s a theory on the Cubs for you to completely disregard. It’s an easy one to believe.
Here goes. They really were a year early!
I like that one. It lets us all off the hook. Kind of a citywide mea culpa. Like, “Hey it’s not our fault, we’re not even supposed to be here,” reasoning when figuring out how this all went kaput so fast.

There’s this other theory that young power pitching beats young power hitting every time, but let’s not go there. That would somehow be an indictment of Theo Epstein and we can’t have that just yet.
I do have this other theory I’d like to share. It concerns, shall we say, the elements.
Back in New York for the first two games, I’m going to say it was “chilly” and not “cold,” but I wasn’t there.
There were two types of players. The ones who shrugged it off and wore short sleeves and the ones who took it to the extreme and wore ski masks. That second group would be the Cubs.
The manager himself joined in. Joe Maddon wore a ski hat that looked like he was going to a Bears game in January.
Anyway, the Mets thought nothing of it and cruised to two wins. The Cubs looked like tourists who didn’t know local weather patterns.
Some will call this nitpicking, but I think they may have lost the mental edge in that series right there.
Regardless, it’s better like this. Oh, I know it hurts, but believe me, it’s better to get swept and skip all of the drama, the curses and whatever else theories. This is easier.
And hey, we’re still on schedule for a 2016 arrival! (Don’t forget the pitching next time, Theo).
Other than the Blackhawks, there’s not much to turn to. Hey! Look at the Bulls! NBA executives (anonymously, of course) didn’t rate them highly. They’re probably right!
As for the Bears, it’s a bye week. “Headed in the right direction” the owner says, after the Detroit loss.
Right. Straight to mediocrity.
