Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Wrigleyville, you’re bringing me down. Last night, I ventured out to four Lakeview bars to tweet about the scene and soak up the excitement. I expected bars on Clark Street to be filled to capacity, all eyes glued to the screens during the pivotal game. I expected to capture diehard fans slamming beers and rooting for their Cubbies, no matter the outcome. I expected passion for a team that delivered more than anticipated this season. That, after all, is what I found in Blackhawks bars during Game 2 against the Tampa Bay Lighting—an away game, mind you, which the Hawks lost 4-3. Blackhawks fans didn’t stand down or give up after that loss. They didn’t yell at the TVs or rush out of the bars exasperated.

Wrigleyville bars were not full last night. The fans were disengaged from the beginning (except for this guy). They grumbled more than they cheered. Sure, that first inning was gut-wrenching, but your loveable losers gave you October baseball. And you, Cubs fans, gave up on them early. It was an exciting run that Chicago isn’t used to, and it’s enough to be proud of. I’m disappointed in you, Cubs fans. Cheer up; “there’s always next season” actually means something this time, but only if you stand behind your team the whole way through. Here’s what I found at GMan Tavern, Casey Moran’s, The Cubby Bear and Murphy’s Bleachers, as tweeted from @OhItsHeather.

FIRST AND SECOND INNINGS
GMan Tavern (3740 N. Clark St. 773-549-2050)

7:43 p.m. Glad to be getting a late start to covering the Wrigleyville scene from
@GmanTavern. Pretty low key in here despite trailing by 4 already.

7:43 p.m. I’ve already joked about fearing death by a burning couch. Not looking good
for me.

7:53 p.m. RT @samjcharles: Picked a helluva time to receive the biggest ass-whooping of the season. #NLCS #Cubs

7:58 p.m. .@GmanTavern is the place to watch Cubs games. It’s like everyone has a
morphine drip and isn’t stress barfing about 6-0 in the 2nd.

THIRD AND FOURTH INNINGS
Casey Moran’s (3660 N. Clark St. 773-755-4444)

8:17 p.m. Kinda bummed to leave @GmanTavern but @Casey_Morans is pretty low energy. Maybe I won’t die in a couch fire tonight.

8:20 p.m. Screaming ensues. A base.

8:24 p.m. “We have a reason to be sardonic assholes.” Overheard at @Casey_Morans

8:29 p.m. Except I’m wearing a skirt. Still 6-0, middle of the 4th. Everyone is bored.
#GoCubsGo

8:33 p.m. “Turn it around, bitch!” Overheard at @Casey_Morans

8:37 p.m. “Almost loaded, baby.” …almost #GoCubsGo

8:39 p.m. Two balls, two strikes. Sounds like my dating life.

8:39 p.m. BASES ARE LOADED! #GoCubsGo

8:41 p.m. Most of @Casey_Morans finally started watching the game.

8:42 p.m. YAAAAS! 6-1!

8:45 p.m. Slamming of fists and, “Honey, go buy us some shots.” Kthanksbye,
@Casey_Morans. (corrected)

FIFTH AND SIXTH INNINGS
The Cubby Bear (1059 W. Addison St. 773-327-1662)

8:52 p.m. FYI “no bags” allowed at The Cubby Bear. I think he meant my backpack.

8:57 p.m. Sweet talked way my into The Cubby Bear in time for the Cubs to take a base.
#GoCubsGo

8:59 p.m. Btw Jorge Soler is the reason I watch baseball. Two bases, bottom of the
5th. 6-1, Mets.

9:08 p.m. RT @redeyesportschi: According to the #Cubs’ attendance figures, there are 4 fewer people here than Tuesday.

9:20 p.m. Party foul, Castro.

9:25 p.m. “Did you see the video of Kyle Schwarber doing show choir in high school?”
Overheard at The Cubby Bear.

9:28 p.m. “I’d expect it to be more hoppin’ down here. But I guess people are despondent.” Truth. #GoCubsGo

SEVENTH THROUGH NINTH INNINGS
Murphy’s Bleachers (3655 N. Sheffield Ave. 773-281-5356)

9:41 p.m. All of these bars are surprisingly empty. Was there no hope from the beginning? Mets bases are loaded at the top of the 7th.

10:02 p.m. RT @JoshhTerry: daniel murphy is still a homophobe

10:10 p.m. Is 8-3 enough to win the game at the bottom of the 8th? Murphy’s Bleachers fans think so. #begintohope

10:41 p.m. Cubs lose 8-3. “You should google Pearl Jam.” Overheard at Murphy’s Bleachers.

10:55 p.m. Avoiding burning couches at all costs. (corrected)
