This morning, Tomorrow Never Knows Fest announced its initial 2016 lineup. Happening over five days at six different venues, the event consistently brings the best of indie rock, electronic and comedy for an awesome week of good music and laughs. Next year’s bill ranks among the festival’s best, and because there’s so much happening (and much more to be announced, specifically for the event’s final day), RedEye broke down the can’t-miss acts on tap so far.
Wednesday, Jan. 13
Whitney and Wildhoney at Schubas.
Rising from the ashes of the Smith Westerns comes Whitney, another excellent addition to Chicago’s vibrant indie rock scene. Talk to anyone who’s been lucky enough to see one of the band’s early live shows and you’ll soon realize you’ve been missing out. Look for these guys to absolutely blow up.
Thursday, Jan. 14
Nick Thune at Hideout.
Comedian Nick Thune is responsible for some of my favorite one-liners, and his special “Folk Hero” was one of last year’s best.
Friday, Jan. 15
Torres at Lincoln Hall.
This pick might be the toughest decision of the whole week because you have to choose between this show and Wild Belle at Metro. You can’t go wrong seeing Torres play songs off her excellent 2015 album “Sprinter.”
Saturday, Jan. 16
Metz and Bully with Slow Mass at Metro.
