Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Welcome to RedEye’s “Song of the Day,” an ongoing feature where music reporter Josh Terry or another RedEye staff member highlights something they’re listening to. Some days the track will be new, and some days it will be old. No matter what, each offering is something you should check out. Check back every weekday for a new song and subscribe to the Spotify playlist below.

Hinds is not only really likable but also a pretty damn resilient band. Just when the Spanish garage rock four-piece started to take off and get attention under the moniker Deers, it was slapped with a lawsuit from Canadian band the Dears. So the Madrid-based group then became Hinds (named after a female deer) and hasn’t looked back since.

The name change, which let’s face it is better because there are way too many Deer Bands already, didn’t slow down its rise. Hinds is tearing it up on tour and will release its debut album “Leave Me Alone” on January 8. The 12-track offering is basically a collection of everything the burgeoning band has released so far, including its breakout single “Bamboo.”

”Bamboo” works for a lot of reasons, like the sunny, reverb-drunk guitars that recall partying at the beach, the charismatic vocal interplay between founding members Ana Perrote and Carlotta Cosials and the lovably amateurish way everything is performed. But what’s really stunning about it is that after just one listen, its melody will make a permanent home in your head. Since it’s such a good and inviting song—it’s welcome anytime.

Just a couple weeks after opening up for Glass Animals at the Riviera, Hinds are back in Chicago playing Lincoln Hall Thursday, Oct. 22. You should go after you listen to “Bamboo.”
