The Central Community Unit School District 301 board recently applauded the many people who helped to launch the 1:1 technology program this fall.

Matt Smith, technology director, headed the Teachers on Special Assignment instructional technologist team of Vince Neil, Stacy Nemec, Michael Doyle and Gail Stover that started the program in August.

“It was a team effort across the district,” Neil said. “Everyone worked together. Looking at our rollout plan, we wouldn’t have changed a thing.”

“I want to give credit to the TOSA team,” said Superintendent Todd Stirn. “I also want to applaud the community for supporting them.”

Second grade through high school students each received a Chromebook and case, while kindergarten and first grade students were given Nexus 7 tablets.

A total of 4,000 devices were handed out on seven different days to: Central High School, Central Middle School, and Howard B. Thomas Grade School in Burlington; Prairie Knolls Middle School, Country Trails Elementary School, and Prairie View Grade School in Elgin, and Lily Lake Grade School in Maple Park.

Central High students were the first ones to receive their devices on the first day of school, Aug. 19. The last school in the district to receive the devices was Prairie View on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Stirn, Assistant Superintendent Esther Mongan, principals, teachers, former and current school board members, Central 301 Education Foundation members, National Honor Society students, and Central High alumni helped to pass out the devices.

This week, framed caricatures of technology team members drawn by Central High student Christian Rodriguez were awarded during the board meeting.

People who received pictures were: Smith, Stover, Neil, Doyle, Nemec, Emily Haring, Nick King, Jacob Aguinaga, Kyle Smith, Roberto Parra, CJ Yoder, Chris Pasquini, Spencer Yoder and Austin Ewald.
