An Aurora mother was charged with drunken driving and endangering the life of a child after police said she crashed her car on Saturday night and ran away from the scene with her 2-year-old son.
Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said Crenashia Wilson, 23, 4300 block of Chesapeake Drive, was driving eastbound on Galena Boulevard just west of Madison Street around 11:03 p.m. when she left the roadway and crossed over a curb. After striking the curb and a street sign, Wilson returned to the road and came to a stop just east of Madison Street, Ferrelli said.
According to police reports, a witness reported seeing a woman get out of the crashed vehicle and begin walking eastbound on Galena with a small child in her arms.
Ferrelli said officers located Wilson and her son around 12:40 a.m. while they were sitting on a sidewalk in the 700 block of East Galena Boulevard. Wilson was holding the child in her arms, Ferrelli said.
Both Wilson and her son were taken to an Aurora hospital for treatment. Ferrelli said Wilson was treated and released. Police have no status on the condition of the child, he said.
Police charged Wilson with drunken driving, improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, leaving the scene of a property damage crash and driving on a suspended license. She was also charged with child endangerment, Ferrelli said.
