The fall soccer season got off to a great start for two travel teams that are part of the Lindenhurst Area Soccer Club.
The under-9 girls premier team won its age group at the Chicago Shootout in Naperville. An under-12 girls team won its division at the Octoberfest Classic in Libertyville.
The under-12 Gold Strikers went 2-0-1 in pool play and then beat Evanston 2-0 in overtime in the finals.
Members of the winning team included Taylor Fruehling, Sophia Goodale, Elise Hartnig, Kaitlyn Joseph, Avery Larson, Rachel McBride, Caroline Miner, Carolyn Monaco, Isabel Sanchez, Nicole Varga and Sophia Walker.
The LASC’s under-9 team competed in the most competitive bracket in the age group and beat the Oswego Panthers 2-1 in the finals.
The Lindenhurst girls participating in the tournament were Hannah Rojas, Raina Schmitt, Angela Coe, Reese Harrison, Gracie Quirke, Alyssa Garcia, Isabel Ceaser, Abby Staehle, Briana Pagac, Michela Hopkins and Allison Varga.
The team was recently named the Illinois Women’s Soccer League’s “Team of the Week.” The girls are coached by Scott Harrison. He’s assisted by Todd Hopkins and David Pagac.
The LASC’S under-12 Blue Strikers also played in the Octoberfest Classic and finished second in their pool.

Team members included Erika Baker, Madeline Barrie, Mia Delamar, Lily Erwin, Olivia Gari, Gretchen Good, Sophia Iaconis, Samantha Levandowski, Ashley Plant, Brooke Sturt, and Fran Wiacek.
Winthrop Harbor youth basketball: Registration for the Youth Basketball League in Winthrop Harbor for boys and girls in school grades 1-8 will continue through Oct. 30.
The league is divided into divisions based on age. Cost for players in school grades 1-4 is $70 for Harbor residents and $80 for non-residents. For players in school grades 5-8, the cost is $85 or $95.
Practice will start at the end of November and games will start in early January. Younger age groups will be on Saturday mornings and older age groups will play on Sunday afternoons.
Boys and girls will play together, and each team will practice one night a week from the end of November through the end of the season in mid-March.
Player evaluations will be held Nov. 6-7. To register, go to the Schlader building on 9th Street or the Winthrop Harbor Village Hall of Sheridan Road during weekday business hours.

Jr. Lady Blue Devils basketball: Tryouts for the Jr. Lady Blue Devils travel basketball program are Tuesday and Wednesday at Warren High School on O’Plaine Road.
Tryouts are open to any girl in school grade 5-8 who lives in Warren School District 121.
Fifth- and sixth-graders will have tryouts from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m., and girls in grades 7-8 will try out from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m.
The tryouts are free, and players should attend both nights. If selected to the team, the player fee is $390, including a uniform. Players who can use their uniform from last year will play $340.

Gurnee Park District youth basketball: Registration is now open for the Gurnee Park District’s Recreational Basketball League, which begins on Nov. 2.
The program for boys in school grades 3-4 costs $125 for Gurnee Park District residents and $156 for non-residents. There is practice once a week, with games on Saturdays.
The cost for the programs for boys in grades 5-6 and 7-8 is $130 or $163, based on residency. Practice is one evening a week and games are on Saturdays.
There also are programs for girls in grades 3-5 and 6-8, with a similar fee structure and playing schedule.
In addition, there are basketball programs for boys and girls in kindergarten and first grade.
