A man is in stable condition after he was shot Monday morning near the 159th Street exit of the Tri-State Tollway in Markham, police said.
A child who was in the back seat of the victim’s burgundy Chevrolet Impala during the incident was unharmed, according to police.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 9:13 a.m. just south of Plaza 41 on Interstate 294, according to Illinois State Police. The victim had called 911 from the northbound side of the exit.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment. Police said they are still questioning him about the incident. They have not released the victim’s age or hometown, but the injuries are considered to be “non-life-threatening,” police said.
Illinois State Police said a description of the shooter was not immediately available. The driver of the Impala had a “traffic altercation” with a person in a minivan, according to a press release. The driver in the minivan then shot at the Impala, hitting the driver, the release said.
Police closed two northbound lanes of the tollway for about a mile while they searched for shell casings.
The shooting is still under investigation. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact police at 630-241-6800.
