The driver of a car struck by another early Friday morning on Naperville Road in Plainfield suffered significant injuries, police said.

The passenger also was injured when their Toyota was struck on the left side at 6:55 a.m. by a black Cadillac Escalade on the 12100 block of Naperville Road in Plainfield, police said. Police said the driver of the Cadillac continued driving north.

Neither the driver nor the male passenger faced life-threatening injuries, according to traffic Sgt. Eric Munson. Both occupants are from Romeoville and were taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.

The Cadillac was an extended, or longer, Escalade and probably had passenger-side, front–bumper or passenger-side front quarter panel damage, police said.

Witnesses told police the northbound Escalade was driving recklessly, passing five cars at a time. Some accounts point to the Escalade swerving into another lane and hitting the Toyota. Physical evidence showed the Escalade did make contact with the driver-side rear quarter panel then fled the scene, according to Munson.

“A lot of people had to see this,” Munson said. “We don’t have the information we need.”

Witnesses are asked to call (815) 267-7238.
