Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Welcome to RedEye’s “Song of the Day,” an ongoing feature where music reporter Josh Terry or another RedEye staff member highlights something they’re listening to. Some days the track will be new, and some days it will be old. No matter what, each offering is something you should check out. Check back every weekday for a new song and subscribe to the Spotify playlist below.

With his G.O.O.D. Music label, Kanye West consistently has sought out some of the freshest new acts in hip-hop (soul crooner John Legend excluded), signing artists as notable as Pusha T and Big Sean. But Kacy Hill, the latest addition to the roster, is a pop star rather than an MC.

The two met while Hill was a backup dancer on West’s “Yeezus” tour. After the rapper heard her single “Experience” he took her under his wing, which led to the record deal. Now, Hill’s released an excellent three-song EP called “Bloo.” Each track is gold, especially the Jack Garratt-produced “Foreign Fields,” but it’s “Arm’s Length” that really shows how bright the rising star’s future is.

The track is a straightforward, piano-led smash that showcases her light and pristine vocals. It’s her most accessible song yet and trades weird experimentation (like the alien-like, FKA Twigs-style sounds on “Experience”) for pure radio-ready execution. It’s so catchy that you can expect it and her to be pretty much everywhere in no time. As an added plus, the chorus is also one of the year’s most memorable with resilient lyrics like, “You can’t love me this way/You can’t keep me in chains.”

Though it’s definitely not rap, this might be the most exciting G.O.O.D. music signee since Pusha T. Listen below.
