Kane County deputies are looking for the driver of a suspicious white van seen driving slowly around the Big Rock area during the past two weeks.
A Big Rock Middle School student reported Wednesday that several times during the last couple weeks, a full-size white van was spotted near the intersection of Rhodes and Jefferson avenues while children were leaving school.
According to Kane County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Patrick Gengler, the student was walking home when the van’s driver slowed down and began smiling at the student.
Gengler said a front-seat passenger also would smile and wave at the student.
While nothing was said to the student, the sheriff’s department has deemed the incident suspicious and will increase patrols in the area.
Gengler said the last time the vehicle was seen in the area was Oct. 9.
Both people inside the van were described as white men. The driver was in his 30s and had short black hair. The student reported that the passenger was “older” and was wearing a beret. He did not have front teeth, Gengler said.
Anyone who sees a vehicle matching this description should call 911.
