Romeoville police are looking for witnesses to a hit-and-run accident Oct. 7 at Weber Road and Highpoint Drive. Police have since charged the alleged driver with aggravated DUI and domestic battery after his 5-month-old son was injured.

Police are asking anyone who saw the accident at 3:49 p.m. that day to call police at (815) 886-7219 and ask for investigations, even if they already talked to an officer.

The driver, Kevin Hodge, 22, of the 1800 block of Lake Shore Drive, was charged with aggravated DUI and domestic battery after the accident and an incident at a relative’s home. He also has been ticketed for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to give information or aid after an accident, failure to notify police of an accident, disobeying a traffic control device, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and a child restraint violation

His son was said to have suffered a significant brain injury.

“My understanding is the baby will be fine,” said Cmdr. John Ferdinardo on Wednesday.

The boy, who the relative had been holding during the argument, was taken Oct. 7 to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital then later flown to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.

A police officer was flagged down at 3:49 p.m. Oct. 7 about a hit-and-run accident at Weber Road and Highpoint Drive. Ten minutes later, police received a call for an ambulance for an injured child at the relative’s home, which is near the accident scene.

During the argument, Hodge struck the person even though he was holding Hodge’s infant son, police said.

After the argument, Hodge left the home but was found at another on the block hiding under a vehicle, police said.

Ferdinardo said he believes the child’s mother was working at the time.
