A Kenosha murder suspect is being held without bond after an appearance in Lake County Circuit Court Wednesday morning.

Andrew Mario Obregon, 33, has been named a suspect in the death of 37-year-old Tywon Anderson, who was found dead Sept. 26 along County Highway A in Kenosha County.

After eluding police since that date, Obregon was captured just before 3 p.m. Tuesday near Winthrop Harbor, according to authorities.

During a bond court hearing Wednesday morning, Judge Christen Bishop denied bond for Obregon on fugitive charges related to the murder, Lake County Undersheriff Raymond Rose said Wednesday morning. Bishop also scheduled an initial extradition status hearing for Oct. 21.

Rose said Obregon was also expected to appear in court Wednesday afternoon on charges for alleged offenses in Lake County, including possession of a stolen vehicle as well as aggravated fleeing and eluding, but nothing that occurs during that hearing is expected to change the suspect’s no bond status.

Rose also said initial reports that Obregon was shot by police prior to his capture have not been officially confirmed.

Police fired at Obregon, who had an arm injury when he was arrested, but Rose said he had also been attacked by a dog and officials were still in the process of determining whether he suffered gunshot or bite wounds.

In either case, his injury was not serious enough to require hospitalization following treatment. Rose said because the investigation is ongoing, officials were not releasing the police department whose officers fired at Obregon, but Rose said it was not the sheriff’s office.

Obregon had been the subject of a manhunt as he eluded Wisconsin authorities in Kenosha and Racine for weeks prior to allegedly crossing the state line into the Antioch area Monday night, according to authorities.

He was captured Tuesday near Winthrop Harbor. An ambulance was requested at the scene of the arrest, Racine police said Tuesday.

The manhunt resulted in four police chases and Obregon is accused of stealing several vehicles along the way, authorities said. Obregon also is suspected in an armed robbery of a convenience store in southern Wisconsin, according to police.

On Monday night, the search extended to the Antioch area, where police requested help cordoning off an area around Route 173 and Grimm Road. The Lake County sheriff’s office provided a K-9 unit to search for the suspect, according to Det. Christopher Covelli, the sheriff’s office spokesperson.

“They asked for our assistance in the 100 block of Route 173 to set up a perimeter,” he said of the police response that lasted until 11 p.m. with an arrest.

According to the Racine County sheriff’s office, Obregon was suspected of stealing a Ford pickup truck from Antioch on or around Oct. 5. Police said that truck was used during a chase the next day in the area of 240th Avenue and 18th Street in Kenosha. The suspect escaped and the vehicle was later recovered on Hoosier Creek Road on Oct. 9, police said.

Three vehicles that Obregon is accused of driving in high-speed chases with Racine and Kenosha police have been recovered in and around Kenosha County, police said.

Obregon’s mother, Susan Marie, 61, was charged Oct. 2 with obstructing the investigation and aiding a felon, according to Wisconsin authorities.
