A pit bull puppy was reunited with its owner Monday after it was stolen from the yard of an Aurora home, Aurora police said.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said a 13-year-old boy is facing theft charges as a result of the incident.

According to Ferrelli, the theft occurred about 5:20 p.m. in the 300 block of Seminary Avenue when the 3-month-old puppy was taken from its owner’s yard.

Witnesses said they saw the boy steal the dog and were able to lead police and the puppy’s owner to the teen’s home, according to Ferrelli.

When police arrived at the home, they found the puppy there. The teen was taken into custody but not without putting up a fight, Ferrelli said.

The teen resisted and fought with officers as they placed him under arrest, Ferrelli said.

He was charged with felony resisting arrest, felony aggravated battery to a police officer and misdemeanor theft.

Ferrelli said the teen was taken to a youth home in St. Charles.

The puppy was not injured and is back home with its owner.
