Police are searching for four men after a robbery Saturday evening at a Jared jewelry store in St. Charles.
St. Charles police said five employees and two customers were inside the business, at 3691 E. Main St., about 8:45 p.m. when three men entered the store wielding hammers. Witnesses said a fourth man stayed at the store’s entrance while the others smashed a display case and made off with its contents.
Police said no one was harmed during the incident. “The suspects did not display any other weapons,” police said.
According to police, the suspects left with an undetermined amount of jewelry before fleeing through the front door, possibly toward the rear of the store.
The suspects were described as three men wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts. Police said they might have gotten into a light-blue, older model Dodge Caravan, which was parked behind the business to the east.
Police believe the Caravan was stolen from somewhere in St. Charles earlier Saturday evening.
According to reports, the van’s driver-side window was broken out when it was stolen. The van’s license plate is Illinois 878 7642.
Investigators are working with employees to determine exactly what was taken and review any possible video, St. Charles police said. Investigators also are working with other departments that may have experienced similar incidents to determine if they are related.
Anyone with information should call the St. Charles Police Department at 630-377-4435.
