Elmwood Park’s long been known for its array of colorful holiday decorations. Now, one zealous decorator has created an online gathering place for folks who deck out their houses.

Brad Walker recently created a Facebook group called Elmwood Park Holiday Decorations, where holiday enthusiasts in the village and surrounding community can interact with each other.

Walker’s house, located at the corner of 73rd and Bloomingdale avenues, is currently decorated for Halloween with tons of ghoulish figures, tombstones and other Halloween items. His home also has orange-colored flood lights, giving it an added scary presence at night.

“Halloween is my favorite holiday,” Walker said. “I had the whole day and kept adding to it and building stuff.”

Walker, 31, says he loves to decorate his home for holidays like Halloween and Christmas. He’s been doing it since college, even when he lived in apartments.

“I’ve done it for a while,” he said. “I go garage sale shopping to find [decoration] deals that are unique.”

He and his wife also take drives through the village and other areas to see what other people are doing when it comes to decorating their homes for the holidays.

That’s why he organized the Facebook group, which had 29 members as of Oct. 9.

In the future, he hopes to highlight all the people in the village who go all-out to decorate their homes during the holidays.

“We want to put together a list to see the homes, so maybe in the future, we could have a tour,” he said.
