Welcome to RedEye’s “Song of the Day,” an ongoing feature where music reporter Josh Terry or another RedEye staff member highlights something they’re listening to. Some days the track will be new, and some days it will be old. No matter what, each offering is something you should check out. Check back every weekday for a new song and subscribe to the Spotify playlist below.
Look, it’s Friday. We’re counting down the minutes until we can start the weekend, watch the Cubs and catch up on some sleep. I feel it, and you probably feel it too. If you’re like me, whenever you leave the office after a long work week you have a playlist of feel-good jams to make your last commute breeze by. The first song on that list should be Quadron’s “LFT.”
When this song came out in 2013, I was listening to a TON of pop music. I’ve mostly always liked pop music—despite an insufferable rockist phase when I was 14—but that year there were months where I went without listening to records with guitars on them. One of those albums was Quadron’s “Avalanche,” which features “LFT,” one of my favorite songs ever.
The Danish duo of Rhye beatmaker Robin Hannibal and vocalist Coco O, Quadron proves with this track that it can churn out seamlessly executed and refreshingly innovative pop music. Here the beats and arrangements are breezy and future-thinking, and Coco O’s croon occupies excitingly different vocal territory as she soars. With both of those things going for it, I haven’t met a person who hasn’t liked “LFT” after first listen. Listen below and happy weekend!
