Aurora police said a 30-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint after pumping gas in Aurora on Wednesday evening.

According to Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli, the man was getting ready to leave a gas station in the 1100 block of East New York Street around 6 a.m. when the robbery occurred.

The man told police that he had just gotten into his car and was ready to close the door when a man approached the vehicle and prevented the door from closing.

The robber reached inside the car, held a handgun to the victim’s neck and demanded money, police said.

Ferrelli said the robber was given an undisclosed amount of cash, then ran to a nearby older, gray Dodge Durango that drove off eastbound on New York Street.

The robber was described as a white or Hispanic man, about 5 feet 11 inches tall. He was skinny and had short brown hair, brown eyes and a beard. He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants, police said.

During the robbery, the man who was robbed noticed another man in a gray Chevrolet Impala who might have been acting as a lookout for the robber. The man in the vehicle watched the robbery occur and then followed the robber’s vehicle eastbound onto New York Street, police said.
