Two days after losing in heartbreaking fashion, Glenbrook South quarterback Daniel Jenkins said the Titans football team had one of its best practices of the season on Monday, Oct. 5.

The senior said it was clear to him that the Titans have moved past Friday’s 34-31 overtime loss to Maine South in Park Ridge and are readying themselves for this week’s Central Suburban South game at Evanston.

“Great practice,” he said. “Everybody was focused on doing their jobs. Mondays are learning days and when we install things for the next game, and we were picking up things so quickly. You could see the focus was on Evanston.”

Glenbrook South (3-3, 1-1) nearly snapped Maine South’s 71-game winning streak in the Central Suburban South, but the Titans let a 28-14 lead with 9 minutes, 54 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter slip away.

Glenbrook South gained one first down on its final three possessions before taking a knee to go into overtime. The Hawks tied the game with 15.6 seconds left and scored a touchdown on their first series of OT.

“I don’t think we would have done anything differently, but we needed one more first down, one more stop,” Titans coach Mike Noll said. “You can always go back and come up with different ways to do things, but I didn’t see anything like that. We just had to do one or two more things to win. We have to got to finish games like that.”

Noll chose to look at the positives from the loss, most notably that the Titans took the 14-time defending conference champion Hawks down to the final seconds.

“It gives us confidence because we feel like we outplayed them for most of the game,” he said. “Even at 3-3, there is a good vibe on our team.”

Noll said he witnessed the team’s good spirits at practice on Monday, Oct. 5.

“Nobody was ready to move on Saturday,” he said. “But we took a step forward. There was a lot of energy Monday and a great willingness to move forward.”

Glenbrook South can’t afford to dwell on the past. Evanston (4-2, 1-1) enters this week’s game one win away from being playoff eligible.

“They have a bunch of talent, several Division I players,” Jenkins said. “We know they are good, but we know what we can do. We think we can beat any team.”
