Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Welcome to the Bears Binge, where every week RedEye prepares you for the matchup facing the Monsters of the Midway. From reasons to dislike the opposing team to an offbeat look at the ’85 Bears anniversary, we’ll have fun with this and hope you do too.

Never mind the fact that this week could get ugly for the Bears.

Game time: Noon, Fox

Players and coaches talk all about how they respect their opponents. Really, that’s what they should do. But fans don’t have to. Here are three reasons Bears die-hards should laugh at the Chiefs (and things related to them) this week.

They were afraid of Jared Allen

We get it, Allen was once one of the most fearsome defensive linemen in the league, and he has had a ton of success against Detroit. But the Detroit Free Press headline “Lions catch break as Bears trade Allen to Panthers” was overstating things. He’s a consummate professional, but he produced just 5.5 sacks in 18 games with the Bears.

It’s Detroit

The quarterback-receiver combination of Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson in particular was supposed to elevate the Lions to be a Super Bowl contender. That has remained a pipe dream, and their playoff hopes this season (much like the Bears’) are all but nonexistent. At least they have the Red Wings … who are nowhere near as good as the Blackhawks right now.

Their biggest star is a chef

Actually, this is pretty cool. Scott Breazeale, a chef with Levy Restaurants, the food and beverage partner of the Detroit Lions, was picked to be a contestant on the Food Network’s “Halloween Baking Championship.” Think he would ship any of his tasty creations to, say, Chicago?

The ’85 Bears are how old?

ICYMI, 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of the 1985 Bears, the last team to bring a Super Bowl
title to Chicago. And as anyone who has experienced it knows, turning 30 can be a pain. Each week we’ll give you an idea of what Bears fans who remember the magic of 1985 must be going through.

When you turn 30 … you’re no longer interested in cheap, crappy beer.

Football equivalent: Wait, did that say “beer” or “bear”? Well, the bottom line is that while many of the young players will receive the benefit of the doubt, they’ll be expected to mature into robust on-field contributors (or whatever beer adjective fans would prefer to use).
