A Lowell man died after a vehicle crash Wednesday morning on U.S. 231, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Neko Romano, 18, of the 11400 block of 157th Avenue, died from blunt force trauma, the coroner’s office said.

The coroner’s office it was called out to the scene of the crash, the 8800 block of U.S. 231, and that he was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m.

Mark Back, spokesman for the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, said that Romano was driving west on U.S. 231 when his 2001 Ford F150 truck went off the road on the south side and then traveled across the road and off the north side, where it crashed, pinning him. No other vehicle was involved, and Back said no one witnessed the crash.

Police think that speed, over correction and possibly foggy weather contributed to the crash, Back said.

Back said that the St. John Police Department called for help from Lake County around 7 a.m, although he wasn’t sure when the crash actually happened.
