A cool front will move from north to south through the Chicago area Wednesday morning, with light winds shifting to the northeast as the frontal boundary passes a given location. Well inland, afternoon temperatures behind the cool front will not be much different than Tuesday — reaching the 70-degree mark at many locations, but the onshore northeasterly winds will hold readings at and just inland of the lakefront in the lower to middle 60s.

The high pressure will quickly retreat east however, and winds will shift to the southwest, boosting readings on Thursday well into the 70s just ahead of another cold front approaching from the northwest. Showers and possibly a few strong to severe thunderstorms could precede and accompany the cold front later Thursday afternoon into the overnight hours.

Significantly cooler high pressure will then spread over our area Friday, with high temperatures struggling to reach the 60-degree mark. However, the system will modify Saturday and really warm up Sunday for the Chicago Marathon.
