Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Welcome to RedEye’s “Song of the Day,” an ongoing feature where music reporter Josh Terry or another RedEye staff member highlights something they’re listening to. Some days the track will be new, and some days it will be old. No matter what, each offering is something you should check out. Check back every weekday for a new song and subscribe to the Spotify playlist below.

Sometimes songs rip so hard you want to jump up and down, throw something and mosh or whatever, but sometimes you can’t do that because it’s early in the week and you’re a gainfully-employed, law-abiding citizen. And that’s too bad because “Purple Rage,” the latest single from Toronto band Dilly Dally’s debut album “Sore” (out Oct. 9), totally rips.

If you like Bully, Pixies or rock music in general, chances are “Purple Rage” will be your next jam. The first thing you notice about this track is the physicality of singer Katie Monks’ growling voice. She’s unrelenting and magnetic as she howls lines like, “I don’t wanna know you,” sounding so aggressive that the words twist and contort to something sinister and mesmerizing. The constant metallic clang of guitars and pummeling drums certainly help too. Listen below and check out the band’s Chicago show Oct. 21 at the Promontory. Buy tickets here.
